The Arvada Rotary Club
* Meets every Wednesday evening 6:30 p.m. for dinner, entertainment and club
business at Indian Tree Golf Course (7555 Wadsworth Blvd.).
* Created in 1959 to serve the Arvada community
* Signature goal of the Club--to make a difference in the lives of the youth of the Arvada
area.
The Arvada Rotary Club

* Created in 1959 to serve the Arvada community
* Signature goal of the Club--to make a difference in the lives of the youth of the Arvada
area. To fulfill this goal the club engages in the following service projects:
Read to Me--Facilitating improvement in student reading skills and promoting parent-
child interaction and communication. Rotarians provide groups of books for
students to take home to read with their parents every weekend.
Student of the Month--Recognition of outstanding local high school students who
have been nominated by their schools because of their leadership, scholarship and
community service.
Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)--Annual sponsorship of several middle
school and high school students who attend a summer leadership workshops.
Harold Carver Academic Scholarships--Every year the Club awards several academic
scholarships to students graduating from Arvada area high schools.
Al Kirkpatrick Vocational Scholarships----Annual vocational scholarships given to
high school students who want to make their contributions to society in a trade
or technical vocation.
Arvada/Wheat Ridge Service Area Ambassadors for Youth (AWRSAY) Scholarships--
A collaboration of service clubs, businesses, city government, public and
private schools, and Red Rocks Community College to facilitate ongoing
educational opportunities for area teens who have overcome adversity.
AWRSAY also operates a Santa House every year where toys and gifts are
donated to selected students in the Arvada and Wheat Ridge area.
Exchange Students--The Club participates in the largest student exchange
program in the world; it hosts high school students from throughout the
world, and sponsors local students going to foreign shores.
* Ongoing Community Service Projects:
Flower Power--Rotary volunteers deliver flowers left at the end of the Colorado
Garden and Home Show to area nursing homes, delivering more than 8000
pots of flower the day after the show.
Adopt-a Highway--The Arvada Rotary, in cooperation with the Col. Department
of Transportation, collects trash from along Wadsworth Blvd. from 68th to 80th
avenues regularly throughout the year.
Arvada State of the City--In Conjunction with the Arvada Chamber of Commerce,
the Club sponsors the Mayor's State of the City speech and breakfast--a popular
event attended by Chamber members, city employees, service club members,
and interested citizens.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing--Arvada Rotarians and friends help usher in the
holiday season by ringing bells at the Salvation Army donation kettles in front
of super markets.
* Major Fundraising Efforts
The Colorado Garden and Home Show--Arvada Rotarians, spouses, and friends
conduct the ticket sales at the annual show at the Colorado Convention Center.
Over 8000 hours of work brings in funds to support community service projects.
Peaches by the Box--Every year, through arrangements with a western slope
grower, the Club sells boxes of peaches to area residents. Funds raised from
this effort support community projects such as scholarships for area students
to attend colleges and universities.
* ROTARY BACKGROUND:
Rotary was created in 1905, in Chicago, by Paul Harris and 3 business
associates. The organization brings together a global network of 1.2 million
members who dedicate time and talent to tackle humanitarian challenges in
their communities and throughout the world. Rotary encourages high ethical
standards in all vocations, and is open to all persons regardless of race, color,
creed, religion, or gender. Members of the 34,282 clubs meet weekly for
breakfast, lunch, or dinner to socialize and work on service goals. The primary
Motto of Rotary is "Service above Self".
