In 2005, Rotary International celebrated its
100th birthday as a service club to
communities in the United States and around
the world. At that time, The Arvada Rotary
Club was awarded a grant of $10,000 by The
Colorado Garden & Home Show. The club used
the grant in conjunction with the City of
Arvada to erect a shade pergola in the
xeriscape garden at the Majestic View Park.
Members of the Club got together with Arvada
city employees and put the finishing touches
on the pergola on Saturday, May 26.
Rotarians
Phil Smith,
Arch Weaver,
Rex Stuck,
Rich Kramer
and Dan
Hershberger were present along with
Joe Eads
and his crew from the City of Arvada.
Last Saturday, June 2, the structure was
dedicated as the Centennial project of The
Arvada Rotary Club and presented to Majestic
View Nature Center as part of the
festivities of Arvada's Trail Days.
President
Jerry Jelinek of The Arvada Rotary
Club spoke on behalf of Rotary, and board
members of The Colorado Garden and Home Show
were also present. From the City of Arvada,
councilman
Steve Urban was present, along with
members of The Arvada Sunrise Rotary Club,
who dedicated a drinking fountain, presided
over by Dave
Brazeau, Sunrise Rotary president.
The Trail Days event was a huge success for
the park with more than 800 people out to
enjoy the festivities and booths of several
vendors and informational stations about
activities and services of the park. The
Park and Nature Center are located in Arvada
at 7030 Garrison St.
